Currently, we provide care from three facilities—our hospital, medical clinic and our rehab/physical therapy center. We’re also pleased to offer advanced orthopaedic care through our Northwest Colorado Orthopaedic & Total Joint Center.

  • Position Purpose:  To ensure accurate diagnostic test results are reported to clinicians in an efficient manner through coordination of personnel, management of processes and workflow with equipment acquisition in a cost effective environment.


    Essential Functions and Basic Duties

    Position Specific Performance Expectations:

    o   Positive and supportive team member to staff members and the hospital.

    o   Establishes written, annual objectives and associated plans compatible with the Hospital Mission, Vision and Values.

    o   Strive to ensure continual compliance with Departmental and Hospital Policies and Procedures and State/Federal Regulations.

    o   Participates in mandatory in-services.

    o   Attends staff meetings and supervisor meetings.

    o   Interaction with other departments in solving problems and working as a team.

    o   Provide periodic staff feedback sessions with employees.

    o   Provides for orientation, in-service training and continued education.

    o   Identifies learning needs for staff.

    o   Responsible for the department's effective operation and for the continuous improvement of its activities.

    o   Assures that procedures and practices of the Laboratory Department conform to applicable accrediting, regulatory, licensing and risk management standards.

    o   Develops and manages an annual budget, which request staff, spaces and the financial resources necessary to effectively accomplish the Mission of the Lab.

    o   Regulates a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care.

    o   Monitors budget variances and develops plan of action to correct significant variances.

    o   Approves updates and writes new policies and procedures as needed.

    o   Continually assesses and improves Lab Departmental functions.

    o   Responsible for integration of the department into the primary functions of the organization.  Recommends contracts outside reference testing services are supplies not available in department.

    o   Demonstrates a professional, positive and caring attitude.  Acts as role model following all hospital policies and procedures.

    o   Organizing and presenting regular lab/staff meetings. 

    o   Successfully obtains blood samples using appropriate collection devices and techniques in relation to patient's age, mental status, and ability to understand instructions.

    o   Performs testing in all areas of lab when required.

    o   Follows up on abnormal and critical patient values in timely manner.

    o   Recommend/order/approve supplies from vendors/suppliers to maintain adequate inventory.

    o   Troubleshoots, performs QC and maintenance on instrumentation as needed.

    o   Able to process inpatient, outpatient, outside agencies specimens' paperwork and charges.

    o   Applies and understands Medicare rules and regulations when processing patients.

    o   Performs other duties as assigned

    o   Completes annual education, training, in-service, and licensure/certification requirements; attends departmental and organizational staff meetings or reads meeting minutes.

    o   Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated timeframes.

    o   Establishes and maintains effective verbal and written communication and good working relationships with all patients, staff and vendors.

    o   Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated; manages activity and time.

    o   Actively participates in departmental and facility performance improvement and continuous quality initiatives.



    Minimum Requirements:

    o   Must be at least 16 years of age (21 for driving positions)

    o   Must be able to legally work in the United States

    o   Must be able to pass a background check

    o   Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable)

    o   Must complete employee health meeting



    o   High School graduate or equivalent.

    o   Certified registry such as ASCP, H.E.W., A.M.T. or ASMT

    o   Unencumbered License/Certification (if applicable)

    o   Current, Valid Driver's License

    o   ICS-100 completed within 90 days of hire or entering into position.



    • BS degree in Medical Technology
    • Master's Degree in applicable field preferred.
    • Five years current Clinical Lab working experience.
    • Two years Lab Supervisor or Manager experience.
