Currently, we provide care from three facilities—our hospital, medical clinic and our rehab/physical therapy center. We’re also pleased to offer advanced orthopaedic care through our Northwest Colorado Orthopaedic & Total Joint Center.



  • Position Purpose: The Pharmacy Technician provides support to pharmacy services that meet patient's needs,

    ensures acceptable, ethical and professional practice standards are met, fulfills all legal requirements and oversees activities that are focused to improve the quality of pharmacy services. Pharmacy Technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy Technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a pharmacist.

     

    Essential Functions and Basic Duties

    Position Specific Performance Expectations:

    o   Assists with preparing and compounding sterile IV preparations, including Chemotherapy.

    o   Participates in interdepartmental process improvements and process evaluation efforts.

    o   Ability to work independently and handle stress appropriately.

    o   Able to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.

    o   Sets priorities, makes critical decisions, and responds quickly to emergency requests.

    o   Participates in interdepartmental process improvements and process evaluation efforts.

    o   Strives to ensure continual compliance with Departmental and Hospital policies and procedures and State and Federal regulations.

    o   Participates in mandatory in-services.

    o   Supports and maintains departmental policies.

    o   Supports new pharmacy programs which include but not limited to; Infusion Clinic, Anticoagulation Clinic, CPOE, USP 797, Bar Code Technology, and other hospital wide initiatives and implementation affecting the Pharmacy Department.

    o   Coordinates, strengthens and integrates Pharmaceutical Technologies (such as: Alaris, USP 797, Pyxis, CII Safe and EPIC).

    o   Procures and maintains medication and IV Solutions inventories.

    o   Considers, discusses and/or implements new concepts when appropriate.

    o   Maintains the par-level inventory system.

    o   Generates patient and department billing, utilizing the pharmacy computer system.

    o   Runs end of the month computer reports and billing documents.

    o   Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the pharmacy and IV storage facility.

    o   Reconciles IV medications and solutions with patient charts on a daily basis.

    o   Returns outdated medications to the manufacturer as directed.

    o   Works with nursing service and other departments that deliver medications to ensure safe delivery.

    o   Maintains active certification and all requirements with PTCB for active pharmacy technician certification.

    o   Assists the hospital to monitor and report Drug Utilization information, adverse drug reactions and

    medication administration events.


    o   Completes annual education, training, in-service, and certification requirements; attends departmental staff meetings or reads meeting minutes.

    o   Actively participates in departmental and facility performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.

    o   Follows policies and procedures for infection control, safety, and risk management to ensure a safe environment for patients, public and staff.

    o   Performs other duties as assigned

    o   Establishes and maintains effective verbal and written communication and good working relationships with all patients, staff and vendors.

    o   Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated; manages activity and time.

    o   Actively participates in departmental and facility performance improvement and continuous quality initiatives.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    o   Must be at least 16 years of age (21 for driving positions).

    o   Must be able to legally work in the United States.

    o   Must be able to pass a background check.

    o   Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).

    o   Must complete employee health meeting.

     

    Education/Licensure/Certification:

    o   High School Diploma or equivalent required, unless Nationally Certified.

    o   Unencumbered License/Certification.

    o   PTCB or other National Certification within 1 year of hire.

    Experience:

    o   Skills in Customer Service.
