Position Summary



The Scientist, Oral Solids Formulation and Manufacturing reports to the Study Director - Hot Melt Extrusion Technology.



This Scientist is responsible for conducting formulation development activities in the laboratory for oral solid dosage forms.







Our Somerset location is the corporate headquarters for Catalent Pharma Solutions. This location houses our state-of-the-art laboratory, clinical, commercial manufacturing plant for oral dose forms in addition to being the Center of Excellence for Highly Potent Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients.







The Role





+ Executes technical activities and lab work including hot melt extrusion, single/twin screw granulation, fluid bed technologies, balances, blenders, tablet presses, capsule fillers, and/or tablet coaters



+ Coordinates with Contracts, Project Planning and Logistics, Analytical Services, Operations, QC, QA, and other groups to ensure project requirements are met Execute and maintain accurate material status in our site Enterprise Resource Management system, which is currently J.D. Edwards. Execute batch traceability, and support mock recalls, as needed.



+ Works independently, supervised on an “as needed” basis, recognizes key issues likely to affect successful and/or timely completion. For those issues that cannot be resolved by the project team, brings them to the attention of the line manager.



+ For assigned manufacturing responsibilities, provides technical support to Operations by establishing the requirements for batch manufacturing and overseeing the execution of any required studies. Available for consultation during clinical or commercial batch manufacture.









The Candidate









+ MS with 3+ years’ experience; OR BS with 7+ years’



+ Significant experience in hot melt extrusion/twin screw granulation & fluid bed technologies



+ Experience in the formulation and process development of oral solid dosage forms, i.e immediate release tablets and capsules and modified release tablets and capsules



+ Significant expertise handling controlled drug formulations and processes



+ Working knowledge of general computer software such as word processing programs, e-mail programs, and spreadsheet programs.



+ Working knowledge of pharmaceutical oral solids processing equipment such as balances, blenders, granulators, single/ twin screw extruders, fluid-bed dryers, tablet presses, capsule fillers, and/or tablet coaters.



+ Working knowledge of pharmaceutical raw materials (i.e. excipients), and their application in pharmaceutical formulations
