About the Role

Reporting Areas

External Reporting, Accounting and Consolidation, Technical Accounting, Corporate Accounting, and the Finance Shared Service Center.

Main Focus

The person in this position will lead the strategic and tactical development of the accounting, external reporting, and control functions of the company, implementing state of the art Accounting and Reporting capabilities. S/he will be responsible for driving process change and building/implementing systems and best practices across Global Accounting to position the company as a “Best in Class” across this discipline. The leader will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the accounting function; including regulatory compliance with accounting standards and practices, working alongside with the CFO to develop financial strategies for the and play an integral role in supporting/leading due diligence processes for potential acquisitions.

The Vice President, Corporate Controller will report into the Chief Financial Officer and will be a key leader in the transformation of the controllership function at Catalent and will be a key strategic leader within the finance function. This role is a key position within the Catalent Corporate Finance team and has significant interaction and involvement with the Chief Financial Officer, business unit VPs of Finance and other key functional leaders such as Tax, Treasury, Investor Relations, Legal, Corporate Development, Internal Audit and FP&A.

Roles and Responsibilities

+ Prepares financial statements and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position.

+ Ensures integrity of all financial information under US GAAP.

+ Creates, develops and maintains a system of controls within accounting that balances audit objectives (including but not limited to Sarbanes-Oxley requirements) and cost-benefit constraints.

+ Manages quarterly & annual reporting, including the completion of financial statements and footnotes, management's discussion and analysis encompassing review of all new accounting matters and application of judgment.

+ Manages annual audit processes (internal and external), as well as supports the organization during regulatory audits and internal controls. Manages the relationship with the audit committee, internal & external audit and key external agencies.

+ Represents the accounting function in acquisition analysis and acquisition integration. Supports the Catalent deal team on due diligence for acquisitions as well as the related purchase accounting for any completed deals. Supports the related audit work with EY

+ Drives process change and re-engineering to improve efficiencies in overall accounting, finance and business processes.

+ Collaborates with business partners to implement "better run" finance processes for outsourced/insourced finance activities especially as relates the execution of the shared service center.

+ Leverages complementary strengths and develops high performing teams; ensures scalable talent in key positions; ensures key capabilities are developed or acquired. Hires and develops key talent into the organization to position the company for future growth based on technical expertise, change drivers and integration leaders.

+ Works heavily with BU leadership including Finance, Operations, Counsel and Business Development teams on complex contractual structures to ensure the Company optimizes the appropriate accounting and financial reporting impacts. Regular contact with the CFO and business leaders.

+ Lead the controllership team in implementing any new accounting standards, completing the goodwill impairment review and the segment analysis annually. Prepare technical accounting memos to support Catalent’s accounting positions as required.

+ Works closely with the treasury team on any debt and equity related transactions from an accounting perspective. Manages the debt covenant process in connection with the treasury team.

+ Chairs the internal disclosure committee comprised of the VPs and SVPs of various functions.

+ Engages with functional leaders on central budgets and capital projects ensuring costs are contained and business cases are sound.

+ Exercises influence over site level finance leaders/teams. Interacts frequently with site level finance leaders including site visits to assess compliance with corporate financial policies and the health of the local balance sheets

The Person

+ The VP Controller will bring a blend of strategic and operational expertise and a track record of leadership experience in diverse, fast changing environments and delivering strong operational results. To be measured through referenceable examples of strategic and operational contributions and the resulting impact.

+ The successful candidate will have the experience and passion to scale and grow a complex business, including a demonstrated track of success facilitating progressive organizational change. Measures of demonstrated experience to include examples of: growth in revenues and margins, market share, geographic footprint, and product lines; team building, process development and systems that has supported quantifiable business scaling; post close integration of teams, processes and systems.

+ While having significant experience as the Corporate Controller of a mid/large-sized publicly traded company, the candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, with an advanced degree in finance, accounting or business administration preferred.

+ Substantial experience working with the Audit Committee of publicly traded firms, international banking, and financial accounting and reporting including budgeting, financial analysis, and managerial and cost accounting.

+ Proven experience identifying, recruiting, developing and retaining exceptionally strong talent. Evaluated by size of teams led; scaling teams and how that was accomplished; team members who have been promoted/succeeded through this executives' development.

+ A business partner and change leader with strong executive presence and significant experience working with senior teams/executives. An individual who can partner with all levels and functions across a company. Someone who takes a consultative approach, working with business unit leaders, Sales and Marketing, Quality and others to impact the business.

+ Unquestionable integrity that is readily known and referenceable.

Specific Requirements

+ 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience in public accounting combined with a minimum of 7 years in a publicly traded company

+ Previous experience with SEC reporting and working with a multinational complex matrix organization

+ Hands on experience with mergers and acquisitions in industry (post public accounting)

+ Experience in accounting for manufacturing organization (post public accounting)

+ Must be influential and a good communicator

+ A solid working understanding of cost accounting and technical accounting is required

+ Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Accounting/Finance

+ CPA required

+ Pharmaceutical or Life Science Industry a plus
