_*Position Summary*_



Provides diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures for both inpatients and outpatients through the administration of radiopharmaceuticals and the safe operation of various types of imaging counting and computer equipment. Maintains accurate records of radioactive materials from receipt through administration and disposal. Acts as a clinical resource to unit personnel and assures current standards of practice for the unit.

* High School Diploma or GED



* Associates Degree strongly preferred



* Bachelor’s Degree preferred









_*Minimum Experience Requirements*_









* One year of nuclear medicine experience strongly preferred









_*License/Certifications*_









* Registered Technologist, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine - R.T. (N)(ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)



* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from American Heart Association



* Positron Emission Tomography Registry preferred, if applicable to entity



* Cardiac Nuclear Medicine registration preferred









_*Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )*_



■ Performs duties directly involved in a variety of technical procedures in the application of radionuclides for the diagnosis, therapy and treatment of disease. Operates gamma camera / computer imaging systems, planar and SPECT and non-imaging equipment, producing quality diagnostic images and results for interpretation by a radiologist / nuclear medicine physician. Practices all rules and regulations pertaining to radiation safety, reducing personal and patient exposure to “as low as reasonably achievable” (ALARA).*



■ Processes radiopharmaceuticals from receipt and preparation through administration and disposal in a safe and efficient manner. *



■ Prepares patient for exam. Provides information and instruction to patient and/or family regarding the procedure and responds to their physical and emotional needs. *



■ Assists the patient during exam and positions the patient. *



■ Observes patient and equipment during the procedure and reports / documents unusual occurrences and records patient’s condition.*



■ Facilitates smooth patient flow, scheduling and optimal use of equipment/resources. *



■ Communicates in writing and verbally with all physicians, imaging personnel, students and hospital staff in facilitating the continuum of care. *



■ Assists with patient transport as needed. *



■ Performs IV starts and contrast administration as required. *



■ As assigned by management, performs technologist duties of other registered modality. *



■ Ability to provide on-coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy. *



■ Correctly inputs charges and required data for procedures and for supplies utilized during the procedure/exam. *



■ Completes required hospital/medical imaging paperwork for each exam performed.*



■ Prepares room, equipment, and exam materials needed for exam. *



■ Coordinates quality control procedures on equipment and radiopharmaceuticals according to department procedures and maintains records of quality control and radioactive materials for inspection by regulating agencies.*



■ Maintains technical operation of equipment and notifies service when necessary. Notifies supervisor of equipment problems and logs the service call/problem per department procedure. *



■ Maintains clean work area for employees and patients. *



■ Maintains quality checks and equipment maintenance documentation per department procedure. *



■ Demonstrates effective time management and is proactive in prioritizing workload and meeting productivity requirements. *



■ Adapts to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census and staffing through priority setting and flexibility. *



_*Physical Requirements*_



☑ Medium Work - exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly
