Senior Cost Accountant







This position will support new and growing EFP financial activity at the Kansas City Site related to commercial and clinical manufacturing, inventory, product routings, and cost standards. Financial management of this activity will lead to improved accuracy, enhanced analysis capability, and lower cost structure.







Position Summary







The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for driving the establishment of product routings, costs and variance analysis in a highly dynamic complex current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. Coordinates inventory related activities with Inventory Control, including cycle count activities, and help ensure overall inventory accuracy. Assists with month end closing, including preparation of month end and quarter end reporting packages, and pursues process improvements such as report automation utilizing current or future ERP applications. Ensures SOX related activities are conducted according to documentation, helps coordinate changes as required, and works with the site and corporate as required in the review and testing of SOX related processes. Works with internal and external auditors as required. Serves as backup to Manager of Finance as needed, to prepare or post journal entries, etc. Works with the Finance Director to develop reporting and analysis in support of the site.







The Senior Cost Accountant will report to the Director of Finance.

efforts toward continuous improvement of our processes & information which will



allow quality drug products to reach patients safely and efficiently.







The Role (daily responsibilities)





+ Lead in establishment of annual product routings and standard setting, review of current routings and Bill of Materials (BOM) for accuracy, special costing projects, and provide management with accurate and timely reports



+ Preparing journal entries in areas such as inventory related adjustments and write-offs, reserves analysis, reconciliations, and data collection and preparation of monthly/quarterly reporting



+ Collect, analyze and report on product variances generated to operations and plant management; provide explanations as to cause and effect of variances, or highlight BOM or routings issue, or planned deviations such as alternative work center utilization



+ Coordinate inventory related activities with management and Inventory Control, including analysis, reporting, annual wall to wall inventory count, cycle count activities (such as blind counts); inventory adjustment needs; and help ensure overall inventory accuracy, establish collaborative relationship with inventory control and supply chain



+ Ensure SOX related activities are conducted as documented, help coordinate changes as required, and work with corporate as required in the review and testing of SOX related processes; this includes working with both internal and external auditors



+ Utilizing current or future ERP applications, automate creation of the monthly and quarterly reporting packages to ensure timeliness and accuracy, utilizing direct download capabilities where possible to eliminate redundant data entry; use extraction capabilities to perform ad-hoc projects and analysis



+ Participate in month-end closing



+ Other duties as assigned, such as analyzing past and present financial results and estimating future revenues and expenditures for budget and monthly forecast



+ Serve as backup to Finance Manager to post journals to system, perform costing functions and other duties as needed









The Candidate (requirements)





+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a directly related field.



+ 5-8 years of General Accounting with a focus in Costing experience in a complex manufacturing environment



+ Hands on experience in configuration of costing standards in a manufacturing environment (JDE Preferred, not required)



+ Principles and practices of accounting procedures (CPA and/or CMA a plus)



+ Knowledge of inventory processes



+ Knowledge of various computer software programs to include: Microsoft Excel, Word, Accounting, Payroll and Time Systems
