**Job Description**

Job Summary:

The Senior Manager of Biomedical Engineering in association with the Director Biomedical Engineering is tasked with providing medical-technology confidence to a major university medical center. Direct responsibilities include innovated methods of implementing employee development, fiscal effectiveness, regulatory compliance, advancing medical technology, expanding resource allocations, and maintaining a patient and employee safe environment. The Sr. Mgr. Biomedical Engineering ensures strict adherence to organizational mandates and directives.

Essential Functions

-Direct accountability and oversight responsibility for the operational manager, supervisor, and engineering resource structure within the organizational structure of the Director of Biomedical Engineering

-Oversight and accountability to excutive IT leadership for operational and capital projects, project management, and resources -Aggressively encourages, promotes, and supports staff competencies through the Biomedical EngineeringTraining/Education/Orientation Program.

-Actively represents Biomedical Engineering expertise on various standing and ad hoc committees with regard to standardization, value analysis and technology advantages of medical equipment acquisitions and associated supplies. -Coordinates, develops, updates, and implements all Biomedical Engineering Policies & Procedures in conjunction within the Environment of Care Safety Manual. -Diligently pursues exemplary customer and employee satisfaction through documented surveys and personal interviews. -Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission, the State of California, and all other regulatory agencies.

-Integrates Biomedical Engineering services with other departments to support the medical center's primary functions and organizational mission. -Maintains an accurate risked-based Medical Equipment Inventory Database and offers a technology-based scheduled equipment replacement plan. -Manages staff scheduling, call-back emergencies, payroll, performance reviews, promotions, leaves of absence, and new hires. -Proactively engages medical equipment organizations, peer institutions, and original equipment manufacturers as part of a comprehensive Quality Improvement Program that includes hazards and recalls, failure analysis, and best practices. -Supports Stanford University research and other Medical School endeavors.

· Adheres to the Biomedical Engineering Medical Equipment Management Plan.

· Ensure 100% completion of Preventative Maintenance work orders is met every month

· Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on work performance of responsible staff members

· Responsible for Life-support and Critical equipment regulatory compliance issues.

· Schedules and maintains proper staffing levels.

· Ensures all medical equipment safety issues are properly handled.

· Serves as a liaison between Manufacturer/Vendor and equipment users.

· Trains and evaluates Biomedical Engineering staff.

· Manage asset lifecycle across the various IT Infrastructure service areas (e.g., network, desktop engineering, field services, data center operations), including budget, processes, and schedule

· Develop and implement policies and procedures for tracking IT Infrastructure assets throughout their lifecycle

· Manage vendor relationships, performance, and contract renewals to reduce overall IT expenses

· Report and demonstrate the value of projects for IT Biomedical Engineering

· Manage all communications for the IT Biomedical Engineering's organization in order to ensure a consistent message is sent for both internal and external communications

· Establish and maintain relationships with ITS department management, IT operations staff, and build process consistency within an infrastructure service area

· Manage IT Biomedical Engineering process improvement projects, including improvements to existing lifecycle management processes and training for IT Biomedical Engineering staff on the use of new and Enhanced technologies

· Participate and support Senior Leadership in the process for forecasting and ordering IT Biomedical Engineering hardware and software

· Maintain and monitor inventory levels to minimum and maximum levels.

· Provide oversight and guidance to Biomedical Engineering Technicians and resources.

· Provide strategic advice and management of daily with operations

· Provide risk and cost management assessments for the organization

· Provide input and support to Senior Leadership on defining, managing and implementing IT Biomedical Engineering Policies, metrics, and best practices

· Work with IT Services leaders as well as Clinical and Business leaders to help SHC meet its clinical and business needs

· Work with service owners and technology experts to guide continuous improvements (using Lean and other process improvement techniques)

· Work effectively with clinical and non-clinical team members from all levels of the organization to achieve the stated objectives.

· Define, monitor and report on asset, financial and contract service metrics

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university

Preferred: Masters and/or management certification i.e. MBA, CHTM, GSB and others


7 or more years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

Prefer 4 years of experience with relevant applications

3 years of experience planning and managing IT programs including budgeting, resource, management, and delivery development.

Previous managerial experience in a healthcare provider organization is required.
